Too big to draw. Too little time. Those thoughts may stop an urban sketcher from attempting to capture awesome scenes. Yet it can be done quickly if you learn to scale things down properly. That’s the gist of the workshop I just taught at the 10th Urban Sketchers Symposium in Amsterdam, titled “Small Sketchbook, Big Drawings.” Below are some photos from the three sessions held alongside one of the city’s picturesque canals. The images include a sequence where you can see me going down the canal ladder to retrieve the water bottle of one of the participants. Never a dull moment when you are urban sketching!
